Surprisingly, brown bears can reach higher population densities in Europe´s forested mountains than in the vast, wilder North American territories. For this reason, the conservation of European bears, which live in more populated areas, needs greater efforts to facilitate coexistence with human activities.
The Fundación Oso Pardo (FOP, Brown Bear Foundation) join these efforts proposing measures to reconcile hunting and tourism with bear conservation and donating livestock guarding dogs and electric shepherds to ranchers and beekeepers to prevent damage. In addition FOP participates or promotes meetings with stakeholders and residents of the bear areas to debate and agree on the best measures for the achievement of a peaceful coexistence with bears.
